So I am Using Word right....

And I make a table.
Sweet . Now time to make a formula. Nothing fancy, I just wanted something to multiply and then total a few things. No need for excel.
One problem though... After about two hours of fuck arising around, I find out that there was no way to display the cell number (ie b4) you have to count it!!
That's right, I got out my finger and counted out One, Two Three Four. Then A, B, C, D.... Oh cool D4!
So now I know cell number, word obviously knows the cell number or the formula wouldn't work.
So um er... How about some way of displaying it?

Good on MS Word god I love the way you make me run around.

Be my friend on this blog and I will give you 1/10 of a $

The Trademe experiment.

So I am broke and want a new computer. So could Trademe save me?

I might put it up to the challenge. By only spending no more than $100 a purchase I will see what is possible to get a nice working system that will allow me to play Elder Scrolls 4 faster than 20fps (what my current PC manages).

Here are the rules:

  • I can only spend $100 a week or purchase
  • The only way I can spend more than $100 is if I didn’t buy anything the earlier week.
  • The parts have to work (duh), be either a socket 754, 939 or similar system.
  • In order for the challenge to be successful, I need to have fully loaded box that was only bought through trade by the end of November.

I will keep this post updated every week instead of making a new blog post every week. You may ask why I would risk buying all my equipment off a trady outfit like Trademe? Well mainly because I think it is a myth to get a excellent system for a decent price. Not to mention if it is in good working order.

Watch Google They might be your new job.

If you work in IT. Then you are probably familar with Microsoft, you are perhaps familar with google too.
Well in a few years you might be needing to replace that MCSE qualifacation with a brand spanking 'I KNOW GOOGLE' certificate of some type. Think about it. Gmail, Gcalendar, Gcal, Gchat, Gpages, Google bash, Google Apps, Writely........ Soon google will have and account and project management sotware for the small business.

Horah for google heh?

VGNZWTFOMG!!!!!!! The VGNZ Infringement.

We all remember (or do we?) a big little site by the name of VideoGames New Zealand. It featured regular News, Articles, Reviews, and even had the odd competition. Not to mention the full featured forums with a decent amount of articulate gaming members. When I came across the site in 2002 I was hooked For here seemed to be a haven of Kiwi individuals who just so happened to like gaming.

Cool.

So cool in fact the when I posted in the Forums: ‘There are no bloody SEGA articles in the Retro section’ that one of the moderators offered me to posts some Sega goodness on the site.

So I posted a few (read FEW) reviews and the like. But wasn’t really into it, I could put the blame on two things…. A 9800 PRO and Far Cry. But I was still Reading and posting on the forums and Reading the more than half decent articles.

Still cool.

Not so cool is that VGNZ over the last year has not seen much attention. Blame that on one thing: HAXORZZZ!!!!111!!!

Not so cool.

Around or before this time I decided to just stray away from contributing. Mainly because I wanted to work on my own projects.

So with the forums down. And me doing my own thing. I hardly came back. Just popped back in now and then and see what’s up. Which, I have to say has not been much since the forums had been down for quite a while.

Until… One day (a few weeks back if I recall) I heard that the forum was back to normal and things were on track for the resurrection of my interest in the site. I had been out of action for a while. Why not log back on a see what’s going on?
So I do and see that things are a bit slow, which is to be expected when the forums were out for as long as it was. I poke around and then decide to post something relating to what caused me to drop interest:

With the other thread asking where our other members have gone. It got me thinking.

I hadn't really disappeared.

I would more so call it lurking for something better which was caused by a few things:

1) My interest in games just waned. Even now I have trouble getting excited. (I’m sure you guys can help on that)

2) The whole life thing. Girl friend, work, other commitments etc.

OK now I have that out of the way I am going to come out with my can of worms:

4) The forums had been the only saving grace for a long time. Due to mainly it’s members. The articles on VGNZ were top notch and…….. Well there was no ‘and’.

5) VGNZ had a lot of ‘current affairs’ throughout the last year or so. But with that aside I think that my personal disappointment can be put on two things. One was the VGNZ 2.0 that never came. The other was the problems with forums since they were hacked.

I was a somewhat lethargic contributor as a staff member; as were a lot of others. All I can say on my part is that I sometimes wondered if it was all worth while actually contributing. There just seemed a lack of drive or ambition. As hippie and wimpy as sounds, I think that the ‘X’ factor somewhat faded away.

And hell look at NZGAMER I use to think that they were some nifty little community site that was inferior to VGNZ. I’m afraid I can not that any longer. Love em or lump em NZGAMER has competitions, ads (I saw one In my mobile magazine recently) a news letter etc. The bottom line is there is just more happening. Something which I would love to see happen for this place.

Well I decided to be blunt…. Really blunt. But I thought If I got some of the things I was thinking said and done…. Instead of lurking around, then it can only help.

What I would like to see would be a few projects and to build up momentum, but how I am not so sure…..

So what would you guys like to do/see happen?

I head off, whiz past my articles and notice they are still there gathering dust:

No wait. My name is not Raja.

That's right boys and girls. Leave the staff at VGNZ and your articles get owned by the man. Although I am a bit pissed. What really shocked me was that nearly everyone
who are now ex-staff have now got the honour of being called Raja. Even the moderator who offered me a position on the staff has had his work stripped off him.

This is not cool. Not cool at all. It is one thing to copy and paste an article from a 3rd party source... So long as you CREDIT THE PERSON WHO WROTE IT. It is quite another thing to claim somthing as your own. This is the unritten rule of the internet.
/. does
gamespot does
digg does
in fact nearly everyone does except videogames.co.nz

So remember boys and girls. If you want orignal, informative and interesting content.Make sure that the authors name is not Raja.

Titled "The Gamers Manifesto" The guy pretty much covered everything annoying about today's games. But I hope he only limited the list to only 20 pionts. MANIFESTO

Well

With Half Life Two been and gone. Yes I said been and gone. The game was great but it somehow lost its little spark that made me all gooey over the original. In fact nearly all game has had that effect on me this year. Only Far Cry- The first of the great 04 FPS to come out this year actually made me excited. Maybe it was because, like Doom and Half Life, It was the first in the series and had me guessing what would unfold throughout. Yes the story was crap, but who the fuck cares? It has big guns and monsters to kill. More than enough story for an FPS. Now I look Forward to well nothing really, sure there is Advent rising and MGS3 and GT4 and Zelda the whatever-ever and... and... and... But to be honest I am getting real sick of gaming in general and just want to do something else with my time.

OK I feel better now

Well Cool

Well I never thought that this would happen but it has. Called ndsemu.com it is calimed to be a Nintendo DS emulator. Which is pretty bold considering that it hasn't come out yet. I had a play with some demo's and it is fun. But all I see here is a a beta GBA emulator with some cool shit thrown in for fun.

I finally saw the Dead to Rights 2 intro that everyone was raving about.

Well just starting out as making a new games news site, this article was a Enlightening read. I will have to keep this mind when building the new site.

Stopid spending.

I bought a few games last week. All second hand. Most of them I had already, and the ones that I hadn't sucked anyway so it was pretty stupid.

Anyway this is what I bought:
Gamecube:

Soul Clibur 2 - Link is kinda cool to use in this version. But the PS2 version is the best solely for the fact that the controller doesn't make you fell like a spastic little elf. I can’t really play this unless I get a arcade controller for it. Now that X arcade stick doesn’t seem like a bad Idea at all….

Godzilla: Distroy all monsters - 4 player battles, Huge monters in cities, smashing up the buildings and terrain etc. SO WHY THE FUCK DOES EVERYTHING MOVE LIKE IT IS IN TRECLE!!!!!! BTW when I push the button, I'd like it to not be daylayed by 2 seconds either. Total rank bullshit.

Pikmin - I wasn't so sure about this game. And I'm still trying to figure it out. I got to day 10 today and find when it isn't intriging, it is a tad slow and boring. my sister thinks it is cute and has started playing it though. So yet another I won't be able to sell, but not play *SIGH*

Xbox:
Dave Mira BMX 2 (or something). Big Big yawn here. Nuff said.

PC:

Metal Gear solid - This game owns and I have decided to resurrect my MGS craze and have started collecting again. Apart from graphics and a First person View mode, it is exactly the same as the PSX version.

Metal Gear solid 2: Substance. (AS ABOVE)

Metal Gear solid 2: Substance. - Mental note: STOP HITTING THE BUY NOW BUTTON ON TRADEME!!!!!!!!!

Requiem: Avenging angel. A cool game that I have been meaning to play for like the last 4 years. And now that I have it I'll prolly just keep meaning to play it.

Tomb Raider 2 - Don't ask. I will be selling it.

Myst - After years and years of trying to understand what makes myst so bloody awesome (well according to my mates anyway). I though I will but this and give it yet ANOTHER shot.

PS2:
E-jay Club world. I liked the version for the PC. IMO it fit snugly between Music 2000 and Reason. As in not too simple but not overly complicated you don't know WTF you are doing. I heard the PS2 version is pretty shitty and so do I, but meh it was cheap.

Add about 27 SEGA Saturn games that I bought for no apparent reason, and then yeah it has been a money wasting week.

Looking foward to the DS? Me niether.

Found this Funny. Thought I might share it.

I might finish My DC

Well my Dreamcast has been in a sorry state for the last week (ie. in pieces). I was meant to mod it and post it on the bueatiful interweb. But alas as per usual I can't be arsed.
Ill get to it this weekend.

BTW

Frontpage sucks. I knew there was a reason I never installed it. The Sooner my macromedia package arrives the better.

Well I was playing EVE Online for about two days. It sux REAL bad. At first I found it quite engaging, trying to find out everything and how it works. But all there really is to do is Mine, Mine, Sell, Upgrade, Mine more..... and then a little more.... Mine Sell Join a corporation/clan/tribe/whatever only So you can Mine, Sell, and Upgrade as one big family. You are probably guessing WTF you mine eh? Asteroids. Yep thats right asteroids.

ATM I have been playing final Fantasy 7. Mainly for two reasons. One is because I bought about 5 PSONES (real Cheap) and the other is because I reevaluating my opinion on a turn based system. I have mostly shied away from it in the belief that IT IS FUCKING!! SLOW!! But recently I have come to prefer it it allows for a more concise and controllable battle system. Hmmm

Oh Yeah another Turn Based game; shadow hearts covenant totally owns. Go and Buy It.

Fuck What A geek.

Played through Medievil Lords some more

Well work sucks and so therefore playing games is the only practical thing to do with my time.

After a little more testing, Medieval Lord has a few faults. It is good but not great, the combat is lacking and a bit too automated for my taste I was hoping for a balance between the styles of Age of Empires and SimCity. The combat is somewhat lacking, having one sprite represent 10 soldiers and then leaving it down to a scripted battle which leads to a luck/numbers match. Some areas are lacking too, morale of your combat fighters is only important when they are not being fed for example. There seems to be no effect on your village unless becoming succumb to a battle. Enemy civilizations do diddly squat but for some reason the outlaws seem to do more. The military and fighting side of things is very limited.

The City mechanics are on the other hand AWESOME. The diversity of food, serenity, religion and building an economy has a great balance. Technology naturally improves over time and allows you to build more advanced buildings, and thus increase your population. The atmosphere of watching your villagers work and grow is pretty neat.

The control system is clean and easy to move around, the first person view is a nice addition allowing you to see the Villagers go through their daily activities. Which is just as well because there seems to be some nice eye candy to induce.

So if the military aspect is not that important I say go give it a shot. If you lied SimCity and other Older style build em' ups from yester year then you may love this. As it is though Medieval lords is pretty 1997 and not so much a 2004 AAA title. I wouldn’t mind renting it but unless you are a die hard fan of the Genre I would give it a miss.

My Demo Bash

Well I had a play around with the Medievil lords demo today and I have to say I quite liked it. Nothing spectacular but it just seemed to have the right balance of economy and control that really meshed well. Go grab the demo and give it try.

Well arccording to my sources the highly anticipated Rome: total war. Comes out tommorow.Yet another Demo I have been playing to death, I never really touched the Total war series. But I have this to blame for resurging my interest in RTS. Which lead me to go and get the Warhammer: Dow demo. Now after about Three weeks of trying to get the damn thing to install I am at a loss. I mean the damn game is coming out next week and I'm still fluffing around trying to get this damn thing to work. I HEAR it is good.

Oh yeah and there was another demo.... Oh yeah stupid War Of the Ring. what a bunch of shit. Some stoopid Dungeon Siege wannabe. Which is sad as Dungeon Siege is the most lamest RPG out there

I might do the blog thing.

After some thought I might give This whole blog thing a go. Update it once a week and such. Might Just fill it up with gaming and Geek Bullshit that's happening on the web.

So here we go. Until I get my website done.
