Email Templates In Outlook.
I was just about to give up and use Thunderbird for sending HTML emails but I rely heavily on Outlook when it comes to PIM (personal information management). With the plethora of devices and apps out there that sync with outlook, it wasn’t really a choice to dump it. Which is a shame as Outlook 2007 can be awful at times.
So here it is a guide on how to make and create an email template to use with Outlook 2007.
The first step is to create the templates. There are a lot to choose from if you search online. It is possible to create it in Word and save it as an .oft file (an outlook template). Just by clicking on this newly created file will then launch a new email all ready to edit! This is the easiest way but can be problematic. Word isn’t too good at producing HTML and it may not work well if the email recipient doesn’t use outlook. Another method is to create a new mail message in Outlook and then save it as a template once your editing is done. Before you do this check If you are using word as your email editor as you will have to turn this off for now, go to Tools | Options | Mail Format | Remove check mark next to “Use Microsoft Office Word …” You can turn it back on once you are finished making you template.
Of course you can buy the templates for me or have me design them for you. These templates are specially designed to have the most compatibility with different mail apps, are easy to use and easy to edit. More details here.
After you have obtained/created a template you can navigate to the where the files is saved and execute it. Or you can create a menu in Outlook which is what I am going show you how to do.
Step One: locate and name your template.
If you saved your template using Outlook, it will be located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\example.oft
You should remember the location and full file name. You will need this.
Name the file to something easy to remember. For example a file name like ‘eml1.oft’ means ‘email one’. You will see why this will come in handy later.
Step Two: customise the Outlook toolbar.
• Open Outlook 2007.
• Choose View | Toolbars | Customize
• Choose the Commands tab, scroll to the bottom of the Categories list, drag the “New Menu” item to the menu line — or to the toolbar.
• Right-click the new button, and give it a new Name, e.g. “&4. Jan’s Templates” (the ampersand makes Alt-4 a hotkey to the menu)
• Choose View | Toolbars | Customize
• Drag any button from the Commands tab of the Customize dialog to a new item under the new menu item
• Right-click the new button, and enter a new Name (use ampersand (&) to create a hotkey)
• Choose Assign Hyperlink | Open | Navigate to the .oft file you created remember that location I told you to remember?
• If the button’s name or icon isn’t showing and you want it to, right-click the button again and select the “Image and text” style

Get commercial games for free!
I like games (duh). But to be honest the amount of gaming is no where near the amount of what I would like it to be (duh again). Most of my gaming has been reduced to my DS, iPod, phone, or my little 12 inch laptop.
It is not like I don't have an Xbox 360 or a 1337 PC box either (I do). But in order to to actually PLAY on these havens of escapism I have to make an effort . I have to get up and switch it on! It is not like my computer desk can follow me around either while phone and laptop are just there....
So much of my gaming time is committed to to my laptop. It is easy to play games when something is always with you. Getting in that quick 15 minutes before a meeting, waiting in the car while your girlfriend mucks around... If you commit in this way you can get a good gaming fix without your adult-life being adversely affected.
But what games to put onto my machine? I only have 64mb of video memory....
There are a plethora of commercial games out there that are now free. I am not thinking about a certain technology that namesake rhymes with and it similar metaphorically to 'current' either. But games that have been released by their respected copyright owners for free. Most of these games are a few years old but relatively 'modern' so the PC overhead is low while remaining polished. Below is a list of games currently installed on my laptop, for free!
Ground Control:
An RTS released in 2000, Ground Control featured a free fowling 3D camera to allow for a birds eye view or to zoom in and get low and dirty with the units. Ground Control completely does away with resource and economic management. One must therefore focus all of his or her attention on controlling one's limited set of units to achieve victory. The game features friendly fire, flanking maneuvers, suppressive fire, stealth tactics (hide in shadows) and heaps of others that were advanced for the time. Set in the 25th century after World War 3 a new conflict between the Crayven Corporation and the Order of the New Dawn for the possession of the distant world of Krig 7-B. You get to play the roles of both sides.
The game is fun and easy to get into. get it here.
Command & Conquer
No introduction needed for this one. An RTS that started the whole series, you can grab it here.
Clonk
A mix of the action, real-time strategy and platform game genres. The player controls people (clonks) in a 2D environment. Clonks can interact with each other, animals, the weather and objects. You can play alone, split screen, LAN or the internet.
There are a constant supply of updates and fan extortions, all available from the official site.
Hidden and Dangerous
This and Rainbow 6 are often considered for setting the bar of realistic tactical shooters. The player takes the role of a four-man British Special Air Service (SAS) team executing a number of important sabotage and/or rescue campaigns during World War II. The game takes a realistic approach, where the player must use stealth for the most part to complete the objectives. grab it
Battle Cruiser 3000AD
I took over 7 years to make and it wasn't complete when released. But BC3K won allot of critics hearts. The total Battle Cruiser series is now available for free.
Well there you have it, Part One of getting it for free. Next time I will post a more including websites that give games away for free!

Pfft
It's also ok to have dumb men in TV adverts but a serious and sacrilegious crime to have woman portrayed in the same light.
Ok I am not going on about the whole it's not fair on men thing. Just what a pain in the arse it stereotypes are.

Where for art thou *nix MySpace?
'I have to ask, is your nick name based on the great range of operating systems that is vastly superior to windows?'
And i got:
'huh? lol'
Must be a windows user :(
My Childhood TV heroes.
Coolest TV characters of my childhood
I was thinking about the good ol days where I only had to worry about… well nothing at all. Anyways here is a list of TV characters that made my childhood.
Sonic (not really a TV character even though he had a show. But shit does he rule!)
This Guy owned. He owned before people started using 'owned' as a word. He was made to make fun of Fat Italian Plumbers (WTF is with that?) who did nothing but plod.plod.plod around the screen. Where most games you walked through, Sonic would blast right through in such a way you knew he would be screaming ‘UP YOURS SNAIL BITCHES’ Yeah Sonic. Just what Sega needed, just what the world needed. Remember boys and girls the old nemesis of Sonic would of never moved to 16bit if it weren’t for Sega. We would still be playing NES versions of Lord of the Rings.
Diesel (off Thomas the tank engine)
From Day one I was a Thomas the tank engine nut. I remember my folks saying ‘All Ringo Starr! Now that is a famous person’ Yeah he was the guy who told the stories.
I didn’t mind Thomas, and Percy and Edward were pretty cool. But my all time favourite was Diesel. I remember freaking my mum out when I told him he was my favourite.
Diesel was such a crafty, stirring sleaze ball he was great.
Bumblebee (off transformers)
No reason. He just looked funny.
Zippy was a class act. A few years ago when mp3 Ringtones were cool, I went to this site and used these. Hint: ‘Three Fat Sausages’ + first person to own Sony Ericcson P900 = Woman on tap. Honest, I have proof.
Bugs Bunny
Nuff said
Speedy Gonzales
Nuff said
Leonardo (Off teenage mutant ninja turtles)
Leo was more in your face than Donatello. Which only just barely made him cool. I used to be a Donatello fan mainly because he knew heaps of cool geeky shit and used a Bo. But I remember changing when a friend said he was a wimp because he hardly fights. /sigh
Oscar the Grouch
The first animated chick that I saw on TV and wished she was real.
In blonde too.
The car FUCKING CHANGED COLOUR! It went from red to grey. In red it was a viper with the top down. But when grey (and with a roof) it became the meanest, bulletproof law enforcer there is. KITT would have some serious competition if it were not for some simple flaw: Why the fuck did the Viper have to change into anything to become cool in the first place? I mean would it just be better off to be in ‘ima kikcka your arse’ mode all the time? Oh well, I absolutely loved this show when I was young and this car was the ultimate coolness.
When I was young I used to watch Baywatch and no, not for the chicks. I actually watched it for the bloody story! I really got into it. For some reason I could watch Baywatch but my mum wouldn’t let me watch Briscoe County Jr. Who I thought was a total tool anyway except for his kick arse horse.
All I remember was sledge saying “Trust me, I know what I’m doing” before I world go off and stuff it up only to succeed anyway. That my friend is how a real man does things.
I had a kick arse pencil case at primary school. It was yellow and had Mr T on the bottom with his look that he always does. Very cool.
The old bat man used to have me in fits every morning. I would sit there wondering if Batman could escape the trap that his arch enemy of the week had laid out for him. Even though he always made it out, I always worried if he would. PS This guy would’ve made a wicked James Bond. BAM!!
X-Men was a great cartoon. And for some reason I liked gambit with his Bo and slippery card tricks.
I was absolutely addicted to the samurai pizza cats. For a good year this was the show I associated with even bothering to come home after school.
Well I can think of heaps of other shows but time is not something I have. So what are your favourite characters?

Very Cool
Spent the last few weeks making a Sudoku solver/generator in excel, only to find out one that is 10 times better on the interwebs. Great, if I knew this beforehand I would not of made one in the first place!
Windows XP guide coming soon!
So this week I will be spending a certain amount of time writing up a guide to “making Windows XP cool”. I have always wanted to write what I do to get my XP rig running all nice and pretty and with Vista around the corner there is not much time left until this document is out of date.
Stay tuned and hopefully I will have the first chapter up here by the end of the weekend!
Mac is OK. It like works and stuff.
So for the last fortnight I have been using OS X for about 90% of the time. And the biggest difference with windows is the same difference with Linux:
I spend my time on how to do something instead of getting it to do something. In other words, I spend time on using my machine instead on of getting my machine able to be used. To say that I would totally move to OS X would be far fetched. But if vista leaves a lot less to be desired, I may be inclined to use windows for playing games and using a Mac/*nix set up for everything else.
Apart from games, OS X and Linux do everything a window does and better.
MAKE THE SWITCH!!

So I am Using Word right....
Sweet . Now time to make a formula. Nothing fancy, I just wanted something to multiply and then total a few things. No need for excel.
One problem though... After about two hours of fuck arising around, I find out that there was no way to display the cell number (ie b4) you have to count it!!
That's right, I got out my finger and counted out One, Two Three Four. Then A, B, C, D.... Oh cool D4!
So now I know cell number, word obviously knows the cell number or the formula wouldn't work.
So um er... How about some way of displaying it?
Good on MS Word god I love the way you make me run around.
Be my friend on this blog and I will give you 1/10 of a $
For a limited time only!! (ie until I run out of cash)

The Trademe experiment.
So I am broke and want a new computer. So could Trademe save me?
I might put it up to the challenge. By only spending no more than $100 a purchase I will see what is possible to get a nice working system that will allow me to play Elder Scrolls 4 faster than 20fps (what my current PC manages).
Here are the rules:
- I can only spend $100 a week or purchase
- The only way I can spend more than $100 is if I didn’t buy anything the earlier week.
- The parts have to work (duh), be either a socket 754, 939 or similar system.
- In order for the challenge to be successful, I need to have fully loaded box that was only bought through trade by the end of November.
I will keep this post updated every week instead of making a new blog post every week. You may ask why I would risk buying all my equipment off a trady outfit like Trademe? Well mainly because I think it is a myth to get a excellent system for a decent price. Not to mention if it is in good working order.
Watch Google They might be your new job.
Well in a few years you might be needing to replace that MCSE qualifacation with a brand spanking 'I KNOW GOOGLE' certificate of some type. Think about it. Gmail, Gcalendar, Gcal, Gchat, Gpages, Google bash, Google Apps, Writely........ Soon google will have and account and project management sotware for the small business.
Horah for google heh?
